On 27 August 2014 RISE Society met the PerspectieF team from the Netherlands visiting Bangladesh. The PerspectieF team represented the youth wing of the ChristenUnie Political Party from the Netherlands, and the spirited youths were interested to visit garment workers and learn more about their life in and out of the factories of Dhaka which supplied US $680million (BGMEA, 2014) worth of ready made garment products to their country this year.
After visiting workers of different garment factories, including victims of Tazreen and Rana Plaza disasters, RISE and the PerspectieF team from the Netherlands visited the Rana Plaza tragedy site to pay their respects and touch the rubble from which even recently human bones have been excavated.
While in the site, some labels could be seen still laying down in what is still a point from which the debris is still not removed completely. Among the many labels, the Bestseller label of Jack&Jones were also discovered.
It must be mentioned that Jack & Jones is not a contributor yet to the Rana Plaza Arrangement Donors group, which includes brands who had been producing at the factories inside the Rana Plaza building in Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
With the Rana Plaza Arrangement gather just under US$17.9million against its US$40million target, brands need to step up and meet the target which is not even a faint drop compared to their profits, and among the name of these donor brands its time to see “Bestseller”.
May memories of the Rana Plaza Tragedy include the chapter where victims and their families received their dues. Let this painful wait end at last.
