Kadtex unrest in Narayanganj, Bangladesh tells the story of discontent.

At least ten workers were injured in a clash between police and workers of Kadtex garments factory at Sostapur area under Fatulla police station Sunday morning in Narayanganj. This incident happened on 17 March 2013 on a low wage issue.

Director of Industrial Police Unit-4 Mahbubul Alam said that for last few days a labour unrest was continuing over salary increase.

At one stage, authority declared the factory closed for an indefinite period.

On hearing this, workers came to the factory and tried to enter into factory breaking the gate. The on duty industrial police intercepted the workers and locked into a clash.

The minimum wage which is currently given to workers in the most important sector of the country – the apparel sector – is much lower than the minimum amount required for a living wage in Dhaka. In such conditions, with rising inflation, workers are simply growing restless and demanding a raise in their salary so that they can manage to barely survive.
