Human Chain for Tazreen victims

A Human Chain was formed by the workers of Tazreen and 15 neighboring RMG factories in Ashulia on December 7, 2012.

The human chain started at 11AM, and was initiated to place demands for the bereaved families of the catastrophic fire in late November this year.

The demonstration was presided over by Mr. Amirul Haque Amin, the President of (National Garment Workers’ Federation) NGWF and the Chairman of (Bangladesh National Council) BNC Mr. Roy Ramesh Chandra to urge the demand of BDT 25 Lakh (approximately USD 31000) from the Owner of Tazreen and its Buyers. It took place outside the National Press Club at Topkhana Road of the City.

More than 150 garment workers lengthened the chain, 90% of whom were women.

5 electronic media and more than 25 print media covered the demonstration which lasted just over an hour.

No response has been reported from Tazreen’s owner or its buyers regarding the matter.
